Phase-field modelling of cohesive fracture

چکیده
In phase-field models the damage evolution problem is considered as a minimisation of Griffith-like energy functional, governed by principles irreversibility, stability and balance. Herein, we consider characterised different degradation dissipation functions. With proper choice for characteristic functions in models, it possible to reproduce cohesive fracture one-dimensional setting. We bar with stress softening, which exhibits homogeneous deformations provided that length below state-dependent critical value. Otherwise, will lose show localised response. It appears method can partially response zone model, instance traction–separation law, but not all aspects like dissipated energy. For problem, crack nucleation load varies smoothly from predicted strength criterion toughness lengths bar. have compared results numerical solutions two-dimensional setting, yielded very good agreement.

A phase-field model for cohesive fracture
In this paper a phase-field model for cohesive fracture is developed. After casting the cohesive zone approach in an energetic framework, which is suitable for incorporation in phase-field approaches, the phase-field approach to brittle fracture is recapitulated. The approximation to the Dirac function is discussed with particular emphasis on the Dirichlet boundary conditions that arise in the ...
متن کاملPhase Field Modelling of Dynamic Thermal Fracture in the Context of Irradiation Damage
This work presents a continuum mechanics approach to model fracturing processes in brittle materials that are subjected to rapidly applied high-temperature gradients. Such a type of loading typically occurs when a solid is exposed to an intense high-energy particle beam that deposits a large amount of energy into a small sample volume. Given the rapid energy deposition leading to a fast tempera...
متن کاملFracture of a model cohesive granular material.
We study experimentally the fracture mechanisms of a model cohesive granular medium consisting of glass beads held together by solidified polymer bridges. The elastic response of this material can be controlled by changing the cross-linking of the polymer phase, for example. Here we show that its fracture toughness can be tuned over an order of magnitude by adjusting the stiffness and size of t...
